In some instances, you may want to conduct an exam on Zoom or administer an independent assignment. To ensure the participants in a Zoom meeting work independently, you may turn off the direct message feature in Zoom portal settings.
1. Log into the TC Portal
Students: https://student.tc.columbia.edu
Employee: https://employee.tc.columbia.edu
2. In the Resources & Knowledge Tab, click Zoom.
3. In your Zoom account, click on your profile, then select Settings.
4. Once in Settings, click the Meeting tab. Then click, In Meeting (Basic).
5. Once in, In Meeting (Basic), scroll down to Meeting chat - Direct messages. Then, click the toggle button to grey so that the feature is turned OFF.
6. Direct messaging (private chat) is now disabled in your meetings.
