Give extra time for a quiz in Canvas

Updated on

If a student is currently taking the quiz while you are viewing the Moderate Quiz page, you can extend the quiz time as part of their current attempt. You can choose how many minutes to extend the quiz, and whether you want to add those minutes to the current time or the current (scheduled) end time.

Find your Canvas course

1. Log into the myTC portal.

2. Click the Canvas icon in the top-right corner.

3. Click Dashboard in the Global Navigation Menu.

4. Click a course card to access that course.

1. Click Quizzes in the Course Navigation Menu.

2. Click the name of the quiz.

3. Click Moderate This Quiz.

Depending on the size of your screen or browser, the link can appear on the right or bottom of the page.

4. To moderate a quiz for one student, locate the student and click the Edit icon.

If you want to select multiple students, click the checkbox next to each of their names. If you want to select all students, click the top checkbox.

Click Change Extensions for [#] Selected Students button at the bottom of the list.

5. Type the number of extra minutes in the Extra Time on Every Attempt field, and click Save.

If you are adding time for multiple students, the student extension box will apply the extra time for all selected students.

If the student hasn't taken the quiz, the extra time will be added to the student's initial attempt and additional attempts.

6. A note about the extra time will appear below the student's name.
