Add a direct link to your Google Doc syllabus

Adding a Download link for your Google Doc Syllabus in your Canvas course requires combining two (2) pieces of information within Canvas. This is done is three (3) parts:

  1. Opening your Syllabus paragraph field.
  2. Finding your Google Doc share code.
  3. Adding the share code to your Canvas course.

Part I. Preparing your Syllabus Page

1. Navigate to your Canvas Course and click Syllabus in the Course Navigation Menu.

2. Click the Edit button.

Part II. Obtaining your Share Code from Google Docs

1. Open Google Drive and open your Google Doc syllabus.

2. Click Share in the top right corner.

3. Click the Copy link button in the new window.

Useful keyboard shortcuts:

  • Copy: Ctrl+C (PC) , Cmd+C (Mac)
  • Paste: Ctrl+V (PC) , Cmd+V (Mac)

Part III. Adding the syllabus Share code to your Syllabus page on Canvas

2. Click hyperlink icon in toolbar and then, click External Link.

4. Adjust formatting as desired and click Save.

Bolding or increasing the text font may make the link easier for students to find.
