This basic tutorial covers how to navigate the Canvas Template Builder and add the desired elements of the template to your course.
You will need:
- To log in with your TC Gmail account
- Your Canvas course URL
It will help to have:
- An updated syllabus
- A professional headshot
- Set class and office hour times
1. Navigate to the Canvas Template Builder.
2. Scroll through the page, filling in information about your course where prompted. The text will appear on Canvas exactly as it is entered in the form.
3. Select which kind of syllabus you want to use (Google Doc or Uploaded PDF), and click Next.
- If you selected Uploaded PDF Syllabus, you will be prompted to upload a file.
- Click the Add File button under Upload Syllabus, and select the file from your computer.
4. Select which version of the template you want for your course site and click Next.

5. If you choose Full Version, you will be asked select which components you want on your site's overview pages

5.1. If you choose Abridged Version, you skip the overview page component selection.
6. Click Submit to finalize your selections
It may take up to 15 minutes the course site to reflect the new changes.
The Canvas Template Builder will not delete any data from your course site. If your have a page or file with the same name as one created by the builder, the older page/file will be renamed to have "-1" appended.
