Analyze user viewing behavior in TC Digital Media

For each video and each student, you can see how many times they viewed the video (are they only watching it once or going back to rewatch), total play length (how long are they watching the video), play percentage), how much of the video they are actually covering (are they watching the full video), coverage percentage, timestamp of when they first watched the video and last time they watched the video. You can also see how long each watching session was for each student which could indicate that students only have a certain amount of time to watch the videos or they watch the videos at certain times.

1. To access TC DM Analytics, either go to your TC DM account from the myTC portal or click on TC Digital Media within your Canvas course.

2. Hover your mouse over the right side of your desired video and select More.

3. Click on Analytics on the left navigation pane to open the video analytics.

4. A summary of the viewing behavior for all viewers will appear. Click See More.

  • Views are the total number of times the video was watched.
  • Unique Views are the total number of first time users that watched the video.
  • Total Play Length is the total time length the video was watched.
  • Play % is the percentage of the total unique time length of the video that was watched.
  • Session/Time Watched is the total time length the video was watch for each session.

5. To view the Hot Spots summary, click on More. A summary report will appear with the same viewing behavior graph along with a Hot Spots summary.

6. To view which users have viewed the video, click Playback

7. A list of the users who have viewed the video will be presented along with the number of views, total play length, play percentage, when they first and last watched the video. To get a visual representation of the data click View Graph next to the user you would like to see the graph for on the far right.

  • Total Views are the total number of times the video was watched.
  • Total Play Length is the total time length the video was watched.
  • Play % is the percentage of the total unique time length of the video that was watched.

8. The viewing behavior that specific user will be displayed in a graph. From the graph, you can discern what segments of the video were watched several times and when the user stopped watching the video. Once you are done looking at the graph, click Close.

9. To obtain a list of the specific user viewer sessions, click Sessions.

A list of the users who viewed the video will appear along with when they opened the video and how they watched the video for that specific viewing session.
