SPSS utilizes multiple types of windows, or screens, in its basic operations. Each window is associated with specific tasks and types of SPSS files. We will later describe the basic purposes and functions of the three most common windows—the Data Editor, Output Viewer, and Syntax Editor—since these three windows are integral for most every action performed in the program.
1. When you first open SPSS, a dialogue box will appear.
2. If you want to create a New Dataset, choose New Dataset within the New Files. Click Open at the bottom.
3. If you want to create a New Database Query, choose New Database Query within the New Files. Click Open at the bottom.
4. You can also open a recent file by choosing the file name in the Recent Files. Click Open at the bottom.
5. You can also open a sample data file by clicking on Sample Files.
5.1. Select which dataset you would like to open. Click Open.
