Record Your Lecture

Updated on

The "Instant Teleprompter" Setup

Before hitting record, prepare your script.

  • Type your full script or detailed bullet points into the Notes field at the bottom of each slide.
  • When you click the Record button, these notes appear at the top of your screen, right below to your webcam. This creates a built-in teleprompter, allowing you to maintain eye contact with your audience  while staying precisely on track with your script.

Start Recording

  1. Go to the Recording tab and select Record (or Record Slide Show).
  2. Verify Input: Ensure the camera is set to the Cameo feed you designed.
  3. Use Your Notes: Your script will appear at the top of the screen next to the webcam, acting as a teleprompter.
  4. When you are ready, click the red Record button. A 3-second countdown will begin.
  5. Engage with your content: Use the Pen or Laser Pointer tools located at the bottom of the recording screen. These movements are recorded into the video, making it easier for students to follow along with diagrams or complex text.
  6. Remember: PowerPoint does not record audio during slide transitions. When you finish a slide, stop speaking for one second, click "Next," wait for the new slide to appear, and then start speaking again.

Reviewing and Re-recording

One of the best features of PowerPoint is that it records slide-by-slide. You do not have to record the entire presentation in one perfect take.

Review Your Work:

After finishing recording, you can play it back immediately to check your audio and Cameo placement.

Fixing a Mistake: If you are unhappy with a specific slide, you can re-record it without affecting the rest of your presentation

  1. Use the Left/Right arrows on your screen to navigate to the slide you want to fix.
  2. Click the “Rubbish Bin” icon at the top of the recording screen to delete the recording of that particular slide.
  3. Click the red Record button again to record a fresh take for just that slide.

The "Stop and Think" Rule

If you make a mistake halfway through a slide, simply stop talking, wait a second, and click the Stop button. Use the "Clear" method above to try again.

You don't have to record the whole deck in one sitting

They can record three slides, take a break, save the file, and come back later to finish the rest. PowerPoint will remember the recordings on the previous slides!
