Change Automatic Scoring in Perusall

Updated on

Perusall automatically creates an engagement score that combines multiple metrics of student engagement into a single score. Up to six different components can be combined into a single score.

1. Select the Settings button on the left navigation panel in Perusall to change scoring settings.

2. The Scoring and Advanced tabs are used to change your scoring policies. Perusall offers a range of options to customize the automatic scoring algorithm.

For detailed information about Perusall's scoring process, review the Perusall's How scoring works document.

2.1. Under the Scoring tab you can preset the scoring settings to either Holistic or Annotation content only and customize further grading settings on that page.

2.2. In the Advanced tab, you can customize your scoring settings. For example, assign a score if a student completes no work.

3. Release scores to students

● Manually, from the grade book, after you have reviewed the scores for that assignment.

● Automatically, after the assignment deadline has passed, so you do not need to manually release scores after each assignment.

● Automatically, as students are working. Perusall generally recommends against this option, as it may lead to students attempting to “game” the system rather than participate fully in the discussions.
