Analyze Data in NVivo 12

1. Double-click the file name to open the file.

2. To create a new Node

2.1. Click Nodes on the left navigation panel.

2.2. Right click in the blank space under the Nodes section that was populated.

2.3. Click New Node.

3. Type a name for the new node. You can add a description and a nickname. Once finished, click OK. You can create multiple nodes this way.

4. As you read, you can drag and drop contents into the nodes.

4.1. Or you could try some quick coding by writing the name of the theme you created in the Code At text box at the bottom of the screen [1], then click Code [2].

4.2. To access the quick coding toolbar

4.2.1. Click the Document tab.

4.2.2. Click the drop-down menu button next to Quick Coding and select where you would like the toolbar to be placed (Hide, Docked, or Floating).

5. The Code in Vivo button creates a new theme assigning as name the text that is selected.

6. Double-click the Node to see all the coded references.

7. Drag and drop pictures into the Nodes

7.1. Click and drag the mouse around the image you want to code. A black and white box will form around the picture.

7.2. Drag the picture to the node you want to code it as.

8. To add pictures from PDFs into Nodes

8.1. Click the PDF tab.

8.2. Select Region.

8.3. Click and drag the mouse around the image you want to code. A black and white box will form around the picture.

8.4. Drag the picture to the Node you want to code it as.

9. You can also drag and drop text from PDFs into the Nodes. Under the PDF ribbon, within in the PDF Selection group, select Text.

9.1. Click the PDF tab.

9.2. Select Text.

9.3. Select the text you want to be added to a Node.

9.4. Drag it to the corresponding Node.
